Employment History

3/08 - Present B.E. Meyers & Co., Inc., Redmond, Washington http://www.bemeyers.com
Senior Electrical Hardware and Firmware Design Engineer . Developing products helping the US Military and various Police departments. This includes laser-based systems and night-vision systems.

7/89 - 3/08 Andrews & Associates Engineering, Inc., Lynnwood, Washington http://www.aae-inc.com
Self employed as a Consulting Engineer. Also acts as a General Contractor coordinating the efforts of other professionals in the Mechanical Design, Components, Board Layout, Fabrication, Assembly, EMI/RFI, Manufacturing, and Test Engineering fields. Designing and developing new products from concept to finished, tested items, ready to ship. Performing worst-case analyses of existing products. Assembling and managing teams of Engineers and other design specialists as needed to meet project goals in a timely and cost effective manner.

My present designs include the entire digital portion of satellite thruster control systems, consisting of complex FPGAs plus the analog measurement circuitry, with designs already in Space and another scheduled. Also have design experience in Medical Electronics, and I took studies during Graduate School in human physiology and biophysics, and zoology. Also have experience in value engineering, working on high volume products, as well as low volume research efforts.

9/88 - 6/89 Tone Commander Systems, Inc., Redmond, Washington
Senior Design Engineer incorporating present technologies into the company's telecommunications products. Included designs with programmable logic and several microprocessors. Performed worst-case power, loading, and timing analyses.

10/84 - 9/88 John Fluke Manufacturing Company, Everett, Washington
Project Manager and Senior Design Engineer for a support product. Coordinated the efforts of other disciplines, and performed the entire digital design and its testing. Test Software Engineer on another product, writing test software and test cases. Also, Software Engineer writing some of that product's commercial code. Later assigned as the product's Lead Digital Designer, through to its release. Assisted Manufacturing in establishing analog and digital test methods. Experienced with fiber optics.

10/83 - 10/84 Azurdata, Inc., Redmond, Washington (the company was sold in 10/84)
Project Engineer working on several major products. Performed worst-case design analyses of microprocessor based, battery powered equipment. Investigated product software.

2/81 - 9/83 Data I/O Corporation, Redmond, Washington
Project Engineer for digital trouble shooting products. Assigned as temporary Group Leader for the Test and Measurement Systems group. Project Engineer for a prom programmer. Also responsible for value engineering another programmer.

6/74 - 2/81 The Boeing Company, Renton, Washington
Senior Design Engineer, Quality Control Research and Development. Researched, designed and developed specialized test equipment used to ensure the integrity of various Boeing products. Much of the equipment was microprocessor based, battery powered, involved substantial firmware development, and included analog signal conditioning circuitry. Also experienced in eddy current and ultrasound.

Some Accomplishments

Hardware Tools: Considerable design experience with the following schematic capture tools: OrCAD, Cadence's Concept, ViewLogic's ViewDraw, Veribest, and MicroSim. I have made extensive use of a variety of oscilloscopes, meters, counters, and oscillators, logic analyzers, serial analyzers, the Intel, Hitachi, Huntsville, Nohau, and Advanced Transdata microprocessor emulators, and various microprocessor simulators.

Software Tools: Considerable design experience with the Keil C compiler and assembler for the 80X51 family of microcontrollers. Use the Borland C/C++ compiler and debugger for system level PC-based software. I use the Altera Quartus™, Xilinx Foundation, and Actel Libero tools sets for FPGA designs, and perform digital and analog designs with discrete digital logic and programmable logic using the VHDL high level language. Also have experience with digital simulation tools, timing analysis tools, and testbench generation.

Hardware designs and design analyses include the following microprocessors, associated support IC's, and logic devices: 8X48, 8X31/51, 8085, 80152, 80186, 80188, 80596SX, Z80, 6301/03, 6800/02, 68X05, 68HC11, 68HC16, 68000, 68008, 68EN360, MPC860, MPC823, TMS34010/TMP34092, programmable logic, Altera, Xilinx, and Actel FPGAs, the Microchip Technology families of PIC processors. I am a registered Microchip Technology Consultant.

Hardware designs include analog interfacing, amplifiers, buffers, ADC/DAC measurement circuitry, discrete transistors, power supplies, impedance matching, PCB layout requirements, full documentation packages.

While at the John Fluke Manufacturing Company, I became proficient with the UNIX Operating System and programming in the C language. I also attended several technical and management courses. While working for Quality Control Research and Development at The Boeing Company, in a joint effort with a Mechanical Engineer and a technician, I designed and developed the electronics for a portable instrument used to measure surface roughness on flat or curved surfaces. The patent, #4,050,294, "Apparatus and Method of Measuring Surface Roughness," was issued September 27, 1979.

In conjunction with the Rehabilitation Research Department of University Hospital, Seattle, Washington, I designed and built a patient monitoring system as part of my Master's thesis in Electrical Engineering.

Personal Data

Happily married, we have two usually wonderful young adults.

Interests

My faith, family, friends, and exercising. I also very much enjoy designing and developing control and communications products for people living with disabilities, in conjunction with the wonderful group at Pathways Development Group, Inc. http://www.pathwaysdg.com
